GOLDFIELD - Mary Margaret (Oviatt) Faulkner, the daughter of Herbert C. and Mary Esther (Farmer) Oviatt, was born in Goldfield on January 16, 1928 and passed away in her beloved Portland, Oregon on April 14, 2012. A lifelong educator, she received her BA degree at the Iowa Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa), and her MA at the University of Oregon. After teaching several years in Iowa, Mary moved to Oregon and enjoyed a teaching career spanning the years 1953 through 1981.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; parents, Herbert and Esther; infant sister, Inez; brother, Russell; and, sister, Josephine Matthew. She is survived by nephews and niece, Russell Dean (Maureen) Oviatt, Nancy (Kirk) Bradley and Bruce (Liz) Matthew.

A loving celebration of life service was held earlier in Portland with many of her neighbors and teaching colleagues sharing their remembrances of and happy moments with Mary. A local celebration of life memorial service will be held November 10, 2012 at 1 PM at the Goldfield United Methodist Church in Goldfield, IA. Per Mary's wishes internment of ashes will be at the Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield following the service. Family will greet friends and relatives in the church basement following internment.
