Arliene D. Bakker, age 92, of Hampton and Dows, passed away Tuesday October 30, 2012 at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. Funeral services for Arliene D. Bakker will be held at 2:30 P.M. Saturday November 3, 2012 at the Abundant Life Chapel in Dows. Pastor Bruce Klapp will officiate. Burial will take place in the Fairview Cemetery in Dows. Visitation for Arliene D. Bakker will be held from 1:30 P.M. - service-time at the church on Saturday. Services are under the direction of the Dugger Funeral Home, 100 North Lee Street in Dows.

Arliene D. Bakker, age 92, of Hampton and Dows, passed away on Tuesday October 30, 2012, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. Arliene Dorothy, was born on May 2, 1920, the daughter of Loren Leroy and Ricardito (Bennett) Sheffield at Manilla, Iowa. She grew up in Manilla where she graduated from the Manilla Community School in 1938. She was united in marriage on April 28, 1939 to John Bakker at Parkersburg, Iowa. They made their home in Aplington, Iowa; Anaheim, California and Manilla before moving to Dows in 1950. She was a housewife and owned and operated a restaurant in Dows. She also worked as a cook at the Dows Community School.

She was an excellent cook and was adept at sewing and other handcrafts. She was a longtime member of the Kensington Club and a founding member of the Abundant Life Chapel.

Arliene is survived by her children, Douglas (Lora) of Yearington, Nevada, Dennis (Terri) of Emory, Texas, Deborah Mandal, Jon (Sue) both of Dows; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Earl of Denison; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Diane Kay; son, Donald; a grandson, Robert; and four brothers and three sisters.
