Donald R. Porter, 68, of Brownsville, TX formerly of Fort Dodge passed away on October 26, 2012. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with burial following at North Lawn Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Donald was born on February 4, 1944, in Fort Dodge, where he graduated from high school in 1963. He also married the love of his life, Claudia A. Black that same year. Don spent his entire life serving the communities he lived in as a police officer. He served Fort Dodge, Eagle Grove, Carlisle and Algona until 1987. He then moved to Texas and worked for Brownsville Independent School District in the Transportation department where he retired in 2008.

Don is survived by his wife, Claudia A. Porter; his three children, Dee Porter of Nashville, TN, Denise (Blaine) Elliott of Algona, IA and Dean (Deborah) Porter of Mason City, IA; grandchildren, Robert Porter, Devyn (Wade) Briggs, Nolyn Elliott, Colyn Elliott, Jacob Porter, Danielle Porter and Damien Comiso; sister, Karren Lange of Fort Dodge; brother, Rocky (Alicia) Porter of Fort Dodge and 1 niece and 4 nephews. Don was preceded in death by his father "Smiling" Fred Porter and mother Maxine Porter; grandson "Son" Joshua J. Porter and granddaughter Deona Comiso.
