February 13, 1940 --- October 20, 2012

Paul Espe, age 72, of Burt, died on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Burt Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Dr. Glenn Wilson officiating. Flag presentation was conducted by the Carter-Stott VFW Post No. 5236 of Burt. Burial was in the Norway Township Cemetery of Kanawha.

Paul LeRoy Espe, the son of Harlan and Azile (Goslin) Espe, was born on Feb. 13, 1940, in Clarion. He graduated from Boone Valley High School in Renwick in 1958. Paul served in the U.S. Army from 1958 – 1962. He was stationed at Fort Monroe, Va., where he played in the Continental Army Command Band. After his service, Paul graduated from Luther College in 1966 with a degree in Instrumental Music. On Jan. 23, 1965, Paul was united in marriage with Connee Kobs in Mt. Horeb, Wis. Paul was the Instrumental Music Teacher at Burt Schools from 1966 until the school closed in 1993. He then drove truck for Marty McGuire Trucking until 2000. Paul was active in the Burt Presbyterian Church where he was the Bell Choir Director, sang in the choir and was on the Music Committee. He had served as the Assistant Fire Chief for the Burt Fire Department. Paul enjoyed golfing, woodworking, motor cycling, following the Pittsburgh Steelers and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Left to cherish Paul’s memory is his wife of 47 years, Connee; four children, Rachel (Gordon) Bain of Verona, Wis., Heather (Tim) Lounsbury of Mount Juliet, Tenn., David (Jodi) Espe of Brighton, Colo., and Keith (Michele) Espe of Lone Rock; nine grandchildren, Justin, Kallie, Cassidy, Vinnie, Polly, Andrew, Waverly, Thomas and Violet; a brother, Rev. Charles (Kathy) Espe of New Richland, Minn.; and two sisters, Joanne (Obie) Lillo of Woodbury, Minn., and Marilyn (Rev. Mark) Espe-Sherwindt of Tallmadge, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents.
