Arthur James Anderson, Portage Passed away on September 30, 2012. Son of Anton and Josephine Wergeland Anderson, he was born on October 17, 1921. He was born and raised on a farm near Hardy, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hardy, Iowa . He graduated from Vernon Consolidated Schools and entered the military in 1945. He served as a gunner aboard B-24 bombers. He was united in marriage to his wife of 55 years, Bernadette Ross on April 17, 1955. He was employed by the Brunswick Corporation of Muskegon, MI. They moved to the Kalamazoo area in 1962. He and Bernie were charter members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Portage, MI. Art was preceded in death by his wife Bernadette; and siblings Cledis (Esther), Jeanette (Harold) Hansen, Gerald (Helen), Avis (Gail) Dixon; sisters-in-law Katherine (H R) Stroyan and Marcella (Erwin) Royce. Art is survived by his brother Lyle; and sister, Joyce (Edward) Nervig; and 21 nieces and nephews. Family will greet friends on Friday, October 12, 2012 from 3-6pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 East Centre Ave. Funeral service will take place Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 11:00 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1747 W. Milham Ave., Portage MI 49024. Interment will follow at South Portage Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please direct any memorial contributions to the church's 50th Anniversary fund.
