December 25, 1839 --- February 1, 1932

Henry S. Taylor, was born in Woodford County, Illinois, on December 25, 1839, and passed away at the home of his daughter at Eagle Grove, Iowa, on Monday February 1, 1932, at the age of 92 years, one month and six days. When fourteen years of age he was taken by his parents to Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood and then returned with them to Illinois. At the beginning of the Civil War he enlisted in Company K of the 11th Infantry of Illinois, and served throughout the war. He was with his company in many of the most bitterly contested engagements during the terrible struggle of the sixties and was given his honorable discharge at the close of the war.

He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Cramer in 1866, in Woodford County, Illinois, to which union three children were born. The mother passed away in 1871. Mr. Taylor came to Iowa with the three children in 1874, and located in Adams County where, on December 25, 1874, he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Ann Strait, to which union nine children were born. He resided most of the time in Brooks and moved to Corning in 1922. The mother passed away on March 31, 1924, and for three years he continued in the old home with his daughter, Grace, and since then has been making his home with his children. He united with the Christian Advent Church in Brooks many years ago. He was a member of the local post of the Grand Army of the Republic. His main interest in life was his children and he forgot his personal interests in his desire for their welfare.

He has been in failing health for several years but his last sickness was of only two weeks duration. Three children preceded him to the great beyond; Mrs. Clara May Dearth on October 4, 1906; Mrs. Pearl Cooper on August 10, 1910, and Charles, on January 26, 1914. He leaves to mourn his going nine children, Walter Taylor of Brooks, Mrs. Maggie Sutton of Bentley, Iowa, Mrs. Minnie L. Harris of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Edward and Franklin Taylor of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Jacob S. Taylor of Vincent, Iowa, Mrs. Sarah E. Yost of Gravity, Iowa and Mrs. Grace Vickery of Corning; one brother, thirty-eight grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends.

The funeral service was held at the Hillard Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon, February 4,1932, at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Arthur M. Eastman. The body was laid to rest in the Brooks Cemetery.
