Merlyn (Jake) John Mayes, 67, of Clarksville, TN, died on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his children, family, and friends. He was born on March 20, 1945 in Clarion, Iowa to the late Merle Mayes and Dorothy Hilpipre Mayes. He was also preceded in death by his son, Mark Holden. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 12 p.m. at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel with Pastor Kimberly Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West in Hopkinsville, KY. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. and Friday, September 21, 2012 from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Jake was a Retired U.S. Army Veteran. He also worked for Toyota for 20 years. He was a member of Fountain of Life Church, VFW, AMVets, and BWC. He is survived by his wife, Minnie Neice Mayes; two sons, Jay Mayes (Sheila) and Steven Mayes (Melissa); special son, Paul Chester (Carmen); daughter, Kandi Smith (Trey); two brothers, Robert Mayes (Doris) of Des Moines, IA and Richard Mayes (Pam) of Mesa, AZ; sister, Kathy Pagel (Dennis) of Webster City, IA; sixteen grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Military will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements entrusted to Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, 1510 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN 37040.
