Mendus R. Vevle dies in Owatonna

Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Vevle are in Owatonna, Minn., today to attend funeral rites for Mr. Vevle's brother, Mendus R. Vevle, 58, who died suddenly Sunday morning at his home in Owatonna. Rites were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at Trinity Lutheran church in Owatonna. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn., Thursday morning at 11 o'clock. Preceding the church rites this afternoon, services were also held at the Owatonna State school, so that children of that institution might attend. Mr. Vevle had been superintendent of the school since 1934.

Mr. Vevle, born Nov. 21, 1890, at Eagle Grove, Ia., was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Rasmus
Vevle. He attended the Eagle Grove schools and following his graduation from high school he attended St. Olaf college, Northfield Minn., from which he was graduated with a B. A. degree in 1914. He did post-graduate work at the University of Minnesota and served in the U. S. army during World War I. He served as principal of the Kenyon, Minn., schools, superintendent of schools at Marmarth, N. D., and superintendent of schools at Hutchinson, Minn, In 1930 he was appointed superintendent of the Minnesota Braille and Sight-saving school at Faribault, where he remained for four years until he was selected superintendent of the state school at Owatonna. He was married July 11, 1917 to Miss Emma Hustad of Minneapolis, who survives him. Also surviving are a son, Richard, a student at St. Olaf college in Northfield; a daughter, Mrs. Jons Wigen of Fargo, N.D.; a grandson, Mendus Richard; a sister, Mrs. Aus Summers of Belmond, Ia.; and his brother, Oliver Vevle of Fort Dodge. His parents, a brother, the Rev. Carl Vevle; and a sister, Mrs. Peter Hovland, preceded him in death.
