SPRINGFIELD, MA – Stanley D. Gauger, 86, of Springfield, died on Tuesday January 3, 2012 surrounded by his loving friends at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Klemme, Iowa on June 4, 1925 a son of the late Albert W. and Grace (Josten) Gauger and was a graduate of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. Mr. Gauger was a beloved member of the faculty of the Allen-Stevenson School for 38 years, an independent school for boys in New York City, from 1949 to 1987. While at the Allen-Stevenson School, Stanley directed the Music Department, enriching the lives of countless students through his work with the orchestra and playing maestro for the annual Gilbert and Sullivan performances for decades and developing a lifelong love of music for hundreds of boys. He was a very giving man who offered his love, support and friendship to all he came in contact with. Stanley will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him including his brother, Carlyle “CJ” Gauger of Ames, Iowa; his sister, Marie Frevert of Ames, Iowa; and his many dear nephews and nieces and many extended family members, many dear friends and many dear colleagues and students. Funeral services are private. Interment services for Stanley will take place in the Springtime in Iowa. There are no visiting hours. Local arrangements are entrusted to the Sampson Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road in Springfield. Stanley’s legacy lives on at the Allen-Stevenson School through the Stanley Gauger Music Fund, which helps to defray the cost of musical instruments. Donations may be made in Stanley’s memory to the Stanley Gauger Music Fund in care of the Allen-Stevenson School, Development Office, 132 East 78th Street, New York, NY 10075.

He was born at the Methodist Church parsonage in Klemme, on June 4, 1925, the son of the Rev. Albert W. and Grace (Josten) Gauger and finished high school at Buffalo Center, Iowa. He then attended Central Methodist College at Fayette, Mo., before transferring to the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York., where he excelled in playing the piccolo, flute, and piano. Mr. Gauger was a beloved member of the faculty of the Allen-Stevenson School for 38 years, an independent school for boys in New York City from 1949 to 1987. While at the Allen-Stevenson School, Stanley directed the Music Department, enriching the lives of countless students through his work with the orchestra and playing maestro for the annual Gilbert and Sullivan performances for decades, developing a life-long love of music for hundreds of boys. He was a very giving person who offered his love, support, and friendship to all he came in contact with.

Stanley is deeply missed by all who knew and loved him including his sister, Marie Frevert of Ames, formerly of Rudd, and his brother, Carlisle "C. J." Gauger of Ames, Iowa, along with many nieces and nephews, extended family members, many colleagues, and students. Internment services for Stanley will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, at the Klemme Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Stanley Gauger Music Fund, in care of the Allen-Stevenson School, Development Office, 132 East 78th Street, New York, NY 10075.
