Christel M. Meier, 83, of Fort Dodge, died July 3, 2012 at Tompkins Memorial Health Center in Fort Dodge. Visitation gathering will be 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Friday, July 6, 2012 at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A combined interment service for Christel and her late husband Wilbert Meier will be 10:00 AM Saturday in the Varina Cemetery in Varina, Iowa with military honors for Wilbert.

Christel Monika Elisabeth Larisch, the daughter of Paul and Elisabeth (Serno) Larisch, was born on December 1, 1928 in Berlin-Lankwitz Germany. She was educated in Germany, completing her education in 1943. Christel moved to the United States and in 1948 when she married Wilbert A. Meier. After their marriage the couple lived in Albert City, Humboldt and Thor before making their home in Fort Dodge.

Christel is survived by her children, Marian-Sue Meier, Sacramento, CA; Harlan (Marilyn) Meier and Maurice Meier, both of Fort Dodge; William Meier of Rutland; and Anita (Tom) Holt of Eden Prairie, MN; five grandchildren, Jason Skadburg of Galt, CA, Jeffrey Skadburg of Lodi, CA, Jill Meier of Fort Dodge, Heidi Possehn of Fort Dodge, and Molly Meier of Fort Dodge; six great-grandchildren; her brothers, Peter-Paul Larisch of Hausen an der Fils, Germany and Hans-Dieter Larisch of Berlin, Germany; several nieces and nephews. Christel was preceded in death by her husband Wilbert on October 16, 2010 after 62 years of marriage, her parents, her sister, and one granddaughter.

The family of Christel Meier would like to publicly thank the staff at Friendship Haven and Trinity Hospice for their outstanding care of our mother throughout her stay at Friendship Haven. The family request memorials be directed to Friendship Haven.
