October 31, 1892 --- September 22, 1959

Mrs. Ford Van Wie, 66, died Tuesday at the Clarion Memorial Hospital. Rites are to be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church, Eagle Grove, with the Rev. Roy Cox officiating. Interment will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery; Mrs. Van Wie, who has been a resident of Eagle Grove since 1915, is survived by her husband and two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Fox, Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. Jasper Cannon, San Antonio, Tex.; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Banks, Minneapolis, and two grandsons, Gary and Bill Batchelor, who lived with the Van Wies. The Sacquety Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Clements VanWie, the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Clements was born in Mankato, Minnesota on October 31, 1892. There she grew to young womanhood and in 1912 she was graduated from the Mankato Normal School, now known as Mankato State College. The year following she taught in the public school of Alden, Minnesota. On June 13, 1913 she became the wife of Ford Van Wie. To this union were born two daughters, Georgia Helen and Mildred Virginia. In 1915 the Van Wie family moved from Minneapolis to Eagle Grove, Iowa, where they have resided, except for a few years in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Death came to Mrs. Van Wie on Tuesday Sept. 22nd.

Mildred was a believing Christian, whose faith was sure and strong. She was an active member of the Methodist Church, the teacher of the 3M, Class of young married women, a member of the Worthwhile Class and the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was vitally interested in the Mission program of the church. She was a warm hearted woman of charm and intelligence. She was especially interested in the sick and infirm and she was a cheerful and frequent visitor in their homes. She had a warm interest in Friendship Haven and she often spoke of spending her sunset years there. Her friends of many years, were most precious to her, will miss her keenly and her family will remember her with, gratitude and love.

Mrs. Van Wie is survived by her husband. Ford, her daughters, Georgia Cannon of San Antonio, Texas and Virginia Fox of Spokane, Washington, her grandsons, William and Gary Batchelor, whom she reared from infancy, and Jon Jasper Cannon, her granddaughter Jill Marie Cannon and one sister Gertrude Banks of Minneapolis.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon Sept. 25th in the Methodist church in charge of Rev. Roy Cox. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Attending the services from out of town were, Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Cannon, Jill and Jon of San Antonio, Tex., Mrs. Herbert Fox of Spokane, Wash., Lt. and Mrs. Bill Batchelor of Valdosa, Ga., A 2/c Gary Batchelor of Anchorage, Alaska, Burke Clements of Chicago, and Gertrude Banks of Minneapolis, Minn.
