Mr. Chester C. Hiddleston, age 93, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Friday morning, July 20, 2012, at Westwing Place in DeWitt.

Chester Charles Hiddleston was born to Ralph and Hazel (Bowling) Hiddleston on April 22, 1919, in Gardner, Kansas. He was a 1937 graduate of Gardner High School. Chet was united in marriage to Imogene Peters in St. Joseph, Missouri, on September 6, 1941. He went on to serve in the United States Navy as a Boatswain’s Mate during World War II, on the Island of Guam. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter, Roberta in 1944. Chet and Imogene owned and operated Belmond Department Store in Belmond, Iowa, for many years. During their retirement, they wintered in Arizona. In 2007, they moved to DeWitt, so their daughter and son-in-law, Fred, were able to care for them. Chet and Imogene enjoyed over 71 years of married life together. He was lovingly by her side until her death on March 22nd of this year.

Chet was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Atlantic Elks Lodge #445. He belonged to the American Legion for many years and most recently the Eugene McManus American Legion Post #238 of DeWitt. Chet was an avid golfer and former member of the Belmond Country Club.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Roberta and Fred Hepburn, of DeWitt; a granddaughter, Stephanie Pillers, her husband, David and their children Emma and Kyle of DeWitt; a grandson, Dr. Robert Hepburn of Scottsdale, Arizona; Preceding Chester in death in addition to his wife, Imogene, were his parents, two sisters and a brother.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Rock Island National Cemetery with the Reverend Jeff Wartgow officiating. Those wishing to attend should meet at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday. Military rites and interment will follow the graveside service.
