ARNOLD DUANE SKADBURG
October 24, 1929 -- July 19, 2012

ALGONA, IA - Services will be 10:30 AM Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Burt, with Rev. Jason Peterson officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Carter-Stott VFW Post #5236 of Burt. Burial will be in the Holmes Lutheran Cemetery in Holmes, Iowa. Visitation will be 3 - 6 PM Sunday at the church.

Arnie was the 5th son of Ole and Thora (Pederson) Skadburg, immigrants from Norway. He was born on October 24, 1929 (Black Thursday) and passed away on July 19, 2012 at Rochester Methodist Hospital at the age of 82. He was raised in Wright County, Iowa. After graduating from Clarion High School in 1947, he worked in Washington, D.C., for a year before enlisting in the United States Navy. He was a proud member of the VP-6 squadron. After returning from the Korean War, he married Beverly Ford on August 2, 1953.

Arnie farmed for eight years, then traveled for Hagie Seed Corn for five years. He then moved his family to Burt where he was the assistant manager and later, manager of the Burt Cooperative Elevator from 1967-1985. From 1985 to 1993, Arnie worked as a grain inspector for the State of Iowa. Arnie and Bev moved to their present home in Algona in 2007. Arnie was a fun-loving guy who loved to play pranks. He also enjoyed golfing, traveling, reading, visiting and collecting elephants. He was a member of the Burt Lions Club, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a life-long member of Holmes Lutheran Church and St. John's Lutheran Church.

Arnie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beverly; he was the proud father of 4 daughters, Vickie (Steve) Madsen of Burt, Jayne (Brian) Carlson of Mason City, Diane (Stuart) Bunkofske of Webster City and Shari (Ed Gunderson) Skadburg of Creswell, OR; several grandchildren, Shane (Sarah) Madsen, Jill (Jake) Salmonson, Jaclyn (Joe) Townsend, Jeff and Jennie Bunkofske; and step-grandchildren, Christiana (Jason) Terry and John (Brandi) Gunderson and one great-grandson, Brennan Madsen. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Norris, Percy, Bernard and Maynard; and son-in-law Stuart.

Memorials may be directed to the St. John's Lutheran Church Mission Fund or the Kossuth Regional Health Center Foundation in support of the Chapel Project. The Lentz Funeral Home of Burt is serving the family, exclusive provider of Veterans and Family Memorial Care.
