Floyd Kuehnast, of the Lanesboro area, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at St. Mark's Lutheran Nursing Home in Austin where he had resided the past two years. Floyd, son of Reinhold and Louisa (Busse) Kuehnast, was born on Oct. 14, 1917, in Beaver Township, Humboldt County Iowa. He lived on a farm where his dad broke the prairie grass into crop land. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Beaver Township, Humboldt, Iowa. He was a 1937 graduate of Humboldt High School, but between the seventh and eighth grade went to confirmation school for a year.

He married Maxine Blesie on Aug. 24, 1940. Agriculture and farming was his life long love. In 1940 he was awarded the American Future Farmer degree. He served his country as a farmer during World War II. He rented several farms in the LuVerne, Iowa area before moving back to Beaver Township, Humboldt, Iowa. In 1952 the family moved to a farm at Lanesboro. Floyd received an award from Goodyear for his conservation practices of contours and terracing which are still in place today. He was active in his church serving on the church council and as an adult advisor to the Lanesboro FFA program. He enjoyed his years as a school bus driver after the milk cows were sold. The herd was mostly Holstein, but he always had a few brown Swiss scattered among the black and whites. He also fed out steers and later had a Charlois cow/calf herd. His favorite color for implements was green (John Deere). He enjoyed woodworking, flower, vegetable gardening, and traveling after his retirement.
