Elizabeth “Betty” Peters, 87, of Keokuk died at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012, at River Hills Village in Keokuk, Iowa. Elizabeth was born on July 28, 1924, in Eagle Grove, the daughter of Hilmar A. and Helen Martin Halverson. She married Charles E. Peters on Aug. 15, 1944, in Boone. He preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 2000. She graduated from Boone Senior High School. She attended Boone Community College and Coe College. She worked as assistant librarian at the Keokuk Public Library. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She also was a member of Chapter U, PEO and Questers.

She was the last of her family. Survivors include: a son, Charles A. Peters and his wife, Eileen, of Sun Prairie, Wis.; three daughters, Lorraine Steward of Keokuk, Diane Buske and her husband, Marco, of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Linda L. Meier and her husband, Richard, of Lenexa, Kan.; five grandsons; a granddaughter; and other relatives. She also was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

A funeral service to celebrate her life was held this morning at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center, 917 Blondeau St., Keokuk. Following the service, her body was donated to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program. Burial will be at a later date in Keokuk National Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday at the funeral home, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Keokuk Public Library, Trinity United Methodist Church, SCC Scholarship or Iowa Hospice.
