Dorothy Elizabeth (Dibble) Lalor, the daughter of Earl A. and Stella S. (Schilling) Dibble, was born November 8, 1918 in Youngstown, Ohio. She graduated from East High School in 1937 and Youngstown Hospital Association School of Nursing in 1940. Dorothy enlisted in the United States Army – Army Nurse Corp, serving during W.W.II from May 7, 1941 – February 11, 1946 - attaining the rank of Captain. She was a nurse in the 10th Station Hospital, which is also where she met her future husband Archie, who was a medical lab tech in the same hospital unit – serving much of her time in Northern Ireland and returning to New York in 1945 via the Queen Elizabeth.
On September 26, 1946, Dorothy married Harry (Archie) Lalor at United Presbyterian Church in Youngstown, Ohio. They moved to Eagle Grove that same year and she worked as an R.N. for Mercy Hospital and Dr. Schaeferle for over 20 years. Dorothy served as "First Lady" of the Eagle Grove Fire Department for 48 years and beyond. Dorothy enjoyed baking cookies, brownies and bars for the volunteer firemen and women and served as Director of the Loan Closet for 30 years
Dorothy passed away on Monday, July 2, 2012, at Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, at the age of 93 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, H. Archie Lalor in 1993; daughter, Linda Benedict in 2008; great granddaughters, Amanda Jo and Adaya Jean Lalor and a brother, Earl Dibble Jr. Survivors include her two sons, Jim (Laura) Lalor of Mason City and Gary (Janice) Lalor of Eagle Grove; son-in-law, Bill Benedict of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Donovan Lalor, Gary Lalor, Ashley Lalor, Bill Benedict, Brett Benedict, Brian Lalor and Michael Lalor; six great-grandsons; six great-granddaughters; brother, Ray (Barb) Dibble of Youngstown, OH; sister, Virginia "Honey" Wayland of Youngstown, OH and numerous, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
