Oscar M. Wierson was born at Roland on March 9, 1890, the son of the late W. T. Wierson, and Mrs. Mary Wierson, and died at his home near Roland, May 1, 1941. He grew to manhood in the community
east of Roland and attended He was baptized and confirmed in Bergen Lutheran Church, and had been an active member, serving his church whenever called upon. He was engaged in farming in Winnebago county at the time he was drafted into the army on September 6, 1918 as a private in the 88th Machine Gun company at Camp Dodge, and was discharged on January 27, 1919. He returned to farming after his discharge from the army. On January 21, 1925 he was united in marriage to Miss Elma Wicks of Kanawha. To this union were born two children, La Vonne, now 14 years of age, and Willard 8 years old. The family lived on the W. T. Wierson farm three and a half miles east of Roland, until a year ago last spring when they moved to a nearby farm which they had purchased. Mr. Wierson had been in ill health for some time and held a closing out sale in the spring of 1940, but had resumed farming this year.

He was a loving husband and father, a good neighbor, and a helpful citizen to his community. He served as commander of the American Legion post at this place and took active part in its activities. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and two children, his mother Mrs. W. T. Wierson of Roland, one sister, Mrs. J. B. Rognlien, and three brothers, Martin, John and Andrew and a brother, Leonard of Lanark, Ill. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Erickson Funeral home, and at Bergen Lutheran church, with Rev. M. O. Sumstad in charge. Special music consisted of a duet by Misses Ruth Peterson and Ruth Rod. The pall bearers were members of the local American Legion post, Rexford Tysdale, C. C. Helvig, B. H. Knudtson, M. D. Johnson, H. M. Nassen and Louis Larson. Burial was made in the Roland cemetery where the Legion post conducted special military services in his honor with Otto J. Hanson serving as chaplain. The McCallsburg Legion post furnished the firing squad at the cemetery. Among those from a distance in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Olson of Painsville, Minn.; Severt Olson of Belgrade, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Olson, Atty. and Mrs. Harold O. Hegland, and Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Severson, of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Eli Olson and family, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Wicks and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Knut Munson and Orlean, Mrs. Albert Clark, John Howland and Tom Wicks, of Kanawha; Mr. and Mrs. Joris Severson of New Providence, Orville Olson and Eleanor Olson of Kelley.
