May 30, 1885 --- June 18, 1973

Roland Wiley Skinner, son of John Wesley and Rachel Felton Skinner, was born in Wenona, Ill. He was the youngest of four children. His parents moved to Varna, Ill. where he attended public school. He came to Goldfield Sept 1, 1910, where he had resided ever since, except for three years he spent in Buffalo Center as manager of a brick and tile plant. On Nov. 25, 1919, he was united in marriage to Nellie Hinton in Goldfield and to this union two daughters: Garnette (Mrs. J. H. Dupont of McLean, VA.) and Cleo (Mrs. Bill W. Hough of Dayton, Ohio.) and one son Joe of Goldfield, Iowa. Roland was a dry cleaner in Goldfield thirty-five years before retiring in 1955. He had been active in the Goldfield Community having served on the Goldfield Park Board for 12 years; was chairman of the Goldfield Community and Businessman's Club; was chairman of the Wright County Izaak Walton League and chairman two different times of the local Conservation Club. He was also on the fire department 15 years. He played baseball until he was 40 years old and umpired for about 12 years after he quit playing. He burned tile at the Goldfield tile plant for several years and also managed the plant three years when it was sold.
Funeral services were June 21, at 2:00 p.m. in the United Methodist Church, Goldfield with Rev. George Den Hartog officiating.
