Yorktown, Virginia -- Robert E. Misner passed away peacefully Friday, May 4, 2012 in Yorktown, VA. Bob was born April 26, 1918 to Clayton and Faith Misner on a homestead in Denton, Montana. Bob's family relocated to Hurley where he spent his elementary and secondary school years. After graduating from high school and following a stint in the Civilian Conservation Corp, Bob enrolled at Sioux Falls College where he excelled in football, basketball and track. In 1940, with the conflict in Europe intensifying, he enlisted in officers' training school in the Army Air Corp. He married his childhood sweetheart Eleanor Rundell March 21, 1942 in Albany, GA just months prior to his transfer to England. During his overseas duty he was a B-24 navigator stationed in Shipdome, England and North Africa and rose to the rank of Captain. After the war, Bob enrolled in the School of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University and in 1950, after graduation, Bob and Eleanor moved to Belmond, IA where he practiced veterinary medicine and they lived for 47 years. Bob was very active in his church and in city government. Bob's leadership as mayor in 1966 was crucial to the town's recovery after it was struck by a severe tornado. In 1997 Bob and Eleanor moved to Yorktown, VA to be near their children.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John and two sisters, Donna and Grace. Grateful for having shared his life are son Bob (Patti) of Falls Church, VA, daughter Deb (Wayne) Smith of Yorktown, VA, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a niece Mary (Wayne) Demorest and a nephew Sam (Judy) Rundell. Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, VA is in charge of the arrangements
