BOONE, IA - James Frakes, 64, of Boone died Sunday (May 27, 2001) at his home. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 1, at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone, with the Rev. Clem Currans officiating. Private graveside services and burial will be Friday afternoon in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Boone.

James Frakes was born on Aug. 9, 1936, in Eagle Grove, the son of John and Ruth (Penfield) Frakes. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1954 and Eagle Grove Junior College in 1958. He married Janette Griffith in Fort Dodge on Oct. 10, 1959. In the early 1960s he served with the Iowa National Guard in Eagle Grove. He spent his working career of 43 years with Fareway Stores Inc. In earlier years, he was an assistant manager and manager at several stores throughout Iowa. In 1970, he was hired as grocery buyer for the Fareway corporate offices in Boone, where he had lived since 1971. In 1989, he became a member of the board of directors and in 1996 he became the director of wholesale purchasing. He retired from Fareway Stores Inc. in 1998. After he retired, he was a part-time bus driver for Boone County Transportation. His hobbies included golfing and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his father and his wife. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Paul Sebring, of Davenport, and Diane and Eugene Julius, of Mason City; his mother, Ruth Ely, of Eagle Grove; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Judy Frakes, of Eagle Grove; one sister and brother-in-law, Arneda and Dr. Bruce Toillion, of Spokane, Wash.; his mother-in-law, Nell Griffith, of Rockwell City; four grandchildren, Kathryn and Audrey Sebring and Alan and Ryan Julius.

Friends may call from noon until 9 p.m. on Thursday at Schroeder Memorial Chapel in Boone, with a vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 8 until 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel. A Memorial Fund has been established and contributions may be made payable and sent to: James Frakes Memorial Fund, in care of Boone Bank & Trust, P.O. Box 428, Boone, IA 50036.
