Paul Harold Vruwink peacefully departed his earthly body to the waiting arms of Jesus on March 19, 2012, while his loving wife of 57 years and 9 months, Gwen held his hand. He was born in Cedar Grove, WI on July 27, 1931. Paul retired as a Chaplain from the Army in 1982, with the rank of Colonel. He also served as Pastor to Wright CRC in Kanawha, IA and 36th St CRC in Wyoming, MI. He and Gwen served as missionaries in the Philippines from 1989 to 1990, when he retired from full-time ministry. He then went on to serve as interim Pastor in a number of congregations in North America. Paul is survived by the love of his life, Gwendolyn (Dykstra); children, Kim and Tom Fiske, Dave and Dot (Jongsma) Vruwink, Mike and Bonnie (Bulthuis) Vruwink; eight grandchildren, Jessie, Jon, Nate, Zak, Max, and Isabella Vruwink, Elliot, and Molly Fiske; sisters, Grace and Will VandenBerg, Fran (Jim, deceased) Daniels, Diane and Clay Carlson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Funeral will be 1:30pm Friday, March 23, 2012 at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, March 22 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm and for one hour before the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chaplain Committee of the Christian Reformed Church.
