BELMOND - Wilma Muriel Friesleben, 83, died suddenly Thursday, February 23, 2012, at the Belmond Medical Center. Funeral services are being held on Tuesday February 28, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond with Pastor Troy Pflibsen officiating. Interment will be at the Belmond Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Andrews Funeral Home, Belmond, Monday, February 27, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m., and will continue the next day an hour prior to service.

Wilma M. Friesleben was born west of Belmond on a farm to Carlton and Adina (Hefte) Johnson on March 6, 1928. Wilma was baptized and confirmed at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Belmond. She attended country school and graduated from Belmond High School in 1945. She then worked for Schultz Drug Store and in the offices at the Thompson Hybrid Corn Co. Wilma was united in marriage to Donald Friesleben on January 8, 1949, at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Belmond. Wilma worked at the Central Telephone Company for many years and at the bank for 16 years before she retired in March 1993. She continued to work for the Tenold Funeral Home and The Andrews Funeral Home in Belmond for many years. Wilma lived on a farm east of Belmond for 45 years until they purchased a home and moved into Belmond in 1994. She was a very active member in her church, the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Mary Magdalene Circle. Wilma loved to be involved in numerous organizations and gave countless hours of service to help others. She was very meticulous and conscientious in all of her duties. She was also very involved in her community being a member of the P.E.O. Chapter LV, the Progress Club, Belmond Hospital Auxiliary where she served as memorial chairman, and was a member of the Belmond Country Club where she loved to golf.

She truly loved to be interacting with people. Wilma was always known to be ready to play a game of cards, or to start working on that next card at bingo with her friends. She enjoyed going out and interacting with the public. Wilma thoroughly enjoyed working funeral visitations and greeting all who crossed her path. She loved to see the world and it carried on with her passion of traveling many destinations. Her love and compassion covered far and wide among her vast amount of friends.

Her love and memories will continue to live on in the hearts and lives of her brothers Dudley (Janice) Johnson of Kanawha; Arland (Avis) Johnson of Hector, Minn. and Gary (Barbara) Johnson of St. John's, Newfoundland. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents Carlton and Adina; husband Don; sisters: Laura (Telford) Simon; Edith (Stanley) Shanhan; Carol (Earl) Christianson; Gaylen (Delores) Johnson; Aileen (Clifford) Johnson along with infant brothers Claire and Stanley.
