Charlotte Lorena (Brown) Walter Thomas was born on the family farm south of Corning, Iowa on August 13, 1938 the daughter of LeRoy and Edith (Seybold) Brown. Charlotte was united in marriage to Vernon Walter on June 15, 1956 and to this union four children were born, David, Judy, Karl and Bonnie. After Vernon’s death Charlotte married Leslie Thomas on December 27, 1991. Together they made their home at the Thomas farm near Alden, Iowa. She returned to Corning after Leslie’s death in 2004.

Charlotte was a loving mother and homemaker. She worked with Vern in their rock, lime and fertilizer business, held various part-time jobs in her community, and worked with Leslie in farming. Her children and extended family members enjoyed her uniquely decorated special occasion cakes, a hobby that later developed into a home business. She was a creative talented lady and could do anything with her hands. Charlotte had a love of quilting, carefully making countless, perfect hand stitches resulting in may beautiful works of art. In her later years, she enjoyed crocheting afghans and prayer shawls for her grandchildren and the ill. She was a member of the United Methodist Churches of Corning and Popejoy.

Left to cherish Charlotte’s memory are her children, David Walter of Lenox, Iowa; Judy Jones and husband Clifford of East Wenatchee, Washington; Karl Walter and wife Belinda of Clarinda, Iowa; Bonnie Boswell and husband Fred of Corning, Iowa; three sisters, Joyce Bergman, Dorothy Haley and Arlene Sanford; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step-children; five step-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Preceding Charlotte in death were her parents Leroy and Edith Brown; and husbands, Vernon Walter and Leslie Thomas.

Although Charlotte will be greatly missed, her love and inspiration will live on through her family. May God grant peace to those who mourn Charlotte’s passing.
