Mrs. Lillian Newtson Christopher was born in Kendall County, Illinois on August 2, 1872. She arrived in Langford [South Dakota] in December of 1910 from a claim close to Hettinger, North Dakota where she and her husband were proving up on a claim. He was accidentally killed November 23, 1910 leaving her with three children. Arthur was eleven years old and twins Ruth and Rudolph four years old. After living in Langford a short time she took a job as housekeeper for John Christopher, who was a stock buyer. She married him in 1914. He passed away in 1926 after several years of poor health. Mrs. Christopher took a course in practical nursing from the Chicago School of Nursing. She devoted over forty years to nursing. She spent many years working with Dr. J. G. D. Cook. They were often called out to the rural areas in the middle of the night. Many of these calls were made by bob sled when the roads were blocked with snow. She also assisted Dr. Rice of Britton and Dr. Murphy of Pierpont. She still helped the sick almost up to the last year she lived. She passed away on February 1, 1959. Mrs. Christopher is buried in the family plot in Eagle Grove, Iowa.
