CORWITH, IA - Charlie Christopher Quebe, 88, of Corwith, died Friday (Aug. 15, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City. His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church in Corwith with the Rev. Ron Feuerhak officiating. Burial will be in the Corwith Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Corwith and again one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Charlie was born on July 21, 1915, at McGregor, Texas, the son of Henry William and Alwine (Preuss) Quebe. His family moved to Indianapolis, Ind., 15 years later. On Sept. 7, 1940, he married Katheryn Hankins in Indianapolis. They moved to Corwith in 1946, where Charlie operated the Corwith Welding Shop until he retired in 1985. For 15 years, they spent their winters in Mesa, Ariz., and the summers in Corwith, where Charlie enjoyed gardening and golf.
He is survived by his wife, Katheryn Quebe of Corwith; a son, Jerry Quebe and his wife, Lisbeth, of Soldiers Grove, Wis.; three grandchildren, Chad Darby and his wife, Marianne, Tualatin, Ore., Tara Bleitz, Fort Meyers, Fla., and Tracy Marbach and her husband, Hugh, McChord Air Force Base, Wash.; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Herbert Quebe and his wife, Pat, Springfield, Ill., and Fred Quebe and his wife, Wilma, Indianapolis, Ind., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Phyllis Powell and her husband, David; two granddaughters, Jacque Powell and Dana Quebe, and five brothers and two sisters. Memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association in memory of Charlie C. Quebe. Garry-Roberts-Murphy- Schaaf Funeral Home, Corwith.
