Local Pioneer Passes Away

Elmer Eado Doty, a resident of South Edmonds for many years, passed away at his home Tuesday afternoon, May 28, following an illness of many months. Mr. Doty was well and favorably known throughout this community. Deceased was born in Tama County, Iowa, October 1, 1861, where he grew to manhood. In 1889 [December 4, 1889 in Eagle Grove, Iowa] he was united in marriage to Margaret Pletcher. They continued to reside in Iowa for 15 years, when in 1904 they came to the state of Washington, locating at Port Angeles where they resided one year, after which they came to Edmonds and have since made this their home. About a year ago, Mr. Doty's health began to fail and for the past 5 1/2 months had been confined to his bed, loving hands doing what they could to alleviate his sufferings. He has been a member of the Modern Woodmen for the past 37 years. Surviving him are his wife Margaret Doty; six daughters: Mrs. Pearl Becklund, Olympia: Mrs. Minnie Dumdurn, Cosmopolis: Mrs. Mabel Judge, Seattle; Mrs. Anna Palmer, Tacoma: Mrs. Jennie Frothingham, Port Townsend, and Mrs. Maude Joyce, Edmonds: five sons; Raymond, William, Daniel, Leo, all of Edmonds: and Loyd Doty of Kent. Besides these he leaves two brothers, William Doty of Port Angeles and Levi Doty of Wisconsin. Also two sisters: Mrs. Margaret Anderson and Mrs. Laury VanHorn, of Iowa. Funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Hughs Memorial Church under the direction of the Edmonds Undertaking Company. Rev. J.H. Berringer officiated. Internment was made in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, South Edmonds, Washington.
