Karlene Kay Lindstrom, the daughter of Carl and Cleo (Smith) Lindstrom, was born on June 7, 1937, in Clarion, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, attending Clarion High School. Following high school, she worked for the Clarion Telephone Company for seven years. Karlene married Nathan Poncin in 1958. The couple made their home in rural Clarion where they farmed. They were the parents of four children, Ronald, Natalie, David, and Kevin. They were divorced and Karlene moved to Clarion and worked for Conlon's bakery. On September 8, 1979, Karlene married Richard Hansen who is the father of two daughters, Kim and Jody. The couple moved to rural Goldfield where Richard farmed and they also owned a bar from 1980 to 1983. In 1985 they moved to Arizona where Karlene cleaned houses, worked at the American Legion and VFW and Albertson's Grocery for 3 ½ years. In 1999, the couple returned to Goldfield to help care for Richard's parents. Karlene continued waitressing and cleaning houses until several years ago when she was forced to quit due to Alzheimer's.

Karlene enjoyed watching game shows on TV and prided herself with a clean home. Richard cared for Karlene's total needs at home until just a few months ago, when she was moved to Careage of Clarion. The couple was married for 32 years. Karlene was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, American Legion Auxiliary, and the VFW Auxiliary.

Karlene passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2012, at the age of 74 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wallace (PeeWee) Lindstrom; brother-in-law, Russ Jackson and a granddaughter, Madison Poncin. Survivors include her husband, Richard Hansen, of Goldfield; children: Ron Poncin (Marie) of Queen Creek, AZ, Natalie Thompson (Bill) of Merritt, MI, David Poncin (Kellie) of Eagle Grove and Kevin Poncin (Susan) of Maricopa, AZ; stepchildren: Kim McCollough (Alan) of Goldfield and Jody Luh (Pete) of North Tonawanda, NY; grandchildren: David Stephens, Nathan Poncin, Amanda Coleman, Logan Poncin, Colton Poncin, Tawna Crandal, Nikki Thompson, Mindy Craft (David), Taylor McCollough (Renee), Jessica Luh, Melissa Luh and Nicholas Luh; great- grandchildren: Derek Stephens, Johnathan Pamperin, Braeden Pamperin, Adelie Pamperin, Sunday Crandal, Brittany Schetter, Drew Craft, and Dillon Craft; sisters: Betty Elston (Gene) of Clarion, Dode Wanken (Kenny) of Clarion, and Karen Jackson of Fort Dodge; sister-in-law, Mardel Lindstrom of Queen Creek, AZ and father-in-law, Robert Hansen of Eagle Grove.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, January 12, 2012, 10:30 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield with Pastor Justin Asche officiating. Visitation is Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
