Arland Earl Martin, 87, was born in Charles City, Iowa on September 7, 1923 to Earl (Shorty) Martin and Rosa Addie Schilling and they preceded him in death to their eternal reward. His mother died first, on September 28, 1934, and his father died on July 14, 1958. In 1928, the Martin family moved to Hampton, Iowa where Arland advanced through the Hampton School System and graduated in 1941. That fall he enrolled in Wartburg College at Waverly, Iowa. World War II started on December 7, 1941 and on December 15, 1942, Arland enlisted in the Army to serve his country. On February 26, 1946, Arland was honorably discharged from active duty. His overseas duty was served in the Pacific Ocean area. In the fall of 1946, Arland returned to Wartburg College at Waverly and continued his education on the G.I. Bill for the next three years, graduating in the spring of 1949. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in Science, with majors in Mathematics, Physics and Minors in Chemistry, Engineering and English.

On November 14, 1947, Arland married Wanda Elaine Lekwa in Denver, Iowa. They have shared a little over 63 years of married life together. To this union three children were born, Robert Earl, Constance Rosa, and Lynn Arland. Arland owned and operated the A.E. Martin Construction Company for over 12 years building homes in North Central Iowa. On April 20, 1952 Arland and Wanda were baptized into Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins at the Hampton Church of Christ. After relocating to Ames, Iowa the family became charter members of the North Grand Christian Church.

Arland is survived by his wife Wanda, two sons Robert Earl Martin and his wife Becky of Cabool, Missouri, Lynn Arland Martin and his wife Mary of Klamath Falls, Oregon and one daughter Constance Rosa Hauser and her husband Bill of Keokuk, Iowa. He is also survived by a brother Arnold Martin and his wife Barbara of Clovis, California, and a sister Ann Martin and a special friend Frank Sullivan of Miami, Florida. His legacy will live on through 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Arland was preceded in death by his father, mother, and step-mother, Edith (Zimmerman) Martin. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Erik Arland Martin on September 4, 1998, and three brothers Albert, Arthur and Allen who died at birth, and a sister Ernestine Martin. In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to North Grand Christian Church. Arland will be buried at the Hampton Cemetery following the memorial ceremony. Arrangements under the direction of Stevens Memorial Chapel, Ames, IA.
