November 21, 1925 - March 11, 2011

William "Bill" Hardcopf passed peacefully on March 11, 2011 at Good Samaritan Society ~ Algona, Iowa. William Francis Hardcopf was born on November 21st, 1925 to Rosie (Carroll) and Alvin Hardcopf at the old home place east of Lu Verne. During his childhood years, he attended a one room school house and was promoted to 9th grade at the age of 12, graduating from Lu Verne High school in 1942 at the age of 16.In the fall of 1943, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS Indiana. During his service he was awarded battles stars for the assault on Iwo Jima, and Okinawa and defending kamikaze attacks. He came home when the war was over and started a trucking business with his Brother Junior.

On August 27th of 1955 he married Patricia Werner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Corwith. They were blessed with four children, Mark from Algona, Julie and (Lynn Nelson) from West Des Moines, Roger and (Cyndie) from Boyd, Texas and Angie and (Regi Goodale) from Urbandale. He was employed by Standard oil of Indiana for twenty years operating a tank truck delivering fuel to farmers and homeowners. He also was a bus driver for the LuVerne Community School District for 10 years. He was a sixty year member of the American Legion. He served on the Lu Verne volunteer fire department for 35 years. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church St. Joe, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Alvin Junior. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, his sister Virgie Andre of Fort Dodge, grandchildren include Andrea and (Josh Anderson) from Algona, Grant, Daniel, Joseph, and Mary Nelson from West Des Moines, Jenny and Rick Hardcopf from Boyd, Texas and Lauren, Malorie, and Olivia Goodale from Urbandale, Iowa.
