Mary Lee Baade was born February 19, 1927 to Lee and Alice (Merriam) Cole near LuVerne, Iowa. She grew up on farm just outside of Corwith. Mary graduated from Corwith High School in 1945. Mary Lee then attended Iowa State Teacher's College. After college Mary Lee taught elementary education in Estherville, Swea City, and Titonka. One of her favorite subjects to teach was science. She took classes during the summer and received her Master's Degree from Drake University. Later Mary Lee became a CNA and worked at the Titonka Care Center.
Mary Lee was united in marriage to Walter Baade on July 3, 1955 at the Burt Methodist Church. To this union two daughters, LeAnn and Jean, were born. Mary and Walt liked to travel. They especially liked to camp out west. While traveling they also liked to hunt and collect rocks. Mary Lee and Walt made many stained glass pieces together. Mary enjoyed reading. Mary was a member of the Good Hope Lutheran Church, Titonka Legion Auxiliary, and the Titonka Federated Club.
Mary Lee became a resident of the Titonka Care Center in March 2010. She died there October 20, 2011, at the age of 84. Mary Lee is survived by her daughters LeAnn (Pete) Summers-Weih, High Point, NC; Jean (Gary) Goetz, Wesley; four grandchildren Cole (Tammy) Weih, Fort Campbell, KY; Sarah (Derek) Weih-Bennett, Dallas, TX; Reid and Cody Goetz, Wesley; and one great-granddaughter Alyssa. Also surviving are brothers-in-law, Raymond and Alfred Baade and sisters-in-law, Irene Baker, Mary Tryon, Viny Bierstedt and JoAnn Asa. She was preceded in death by her husband Walt in October 2007.
