LaVeta Batcheller, 89, Des Moines

LaVeta L. (Nickles) Batcheller, 89, of Des Moines, formerly of Webster City, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at the Foster Chapel, with Rev. Patrick Wiedemeier officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.

LaVeta, daughter of Ilo and Jennie (Scheppler) Nickles was born December 16, 1922 near Woolstock, Iowa. She attended rural school and graduated in 1941 from Clarion High School. LaVeta received her teaching certificate from Buena Vista University and taught rural school near Blairsburg for three years. On April 19, 1944, she married Glen Lloyd Batcheller in Clarion, Iowa. The couple resided in Webster City.

Survivors include her daughters, Elaine (Richard) Thoe of Pueblo West, CO; Kathy Stark of Waukee; Pamela (Rex) West of Johnston; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Peterson of Fort Dodge; brother, Louis Nickles of Bella Vista, AR; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Glen, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Brock; brothers, Blaine and Bernard Nickles and her parents. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions be left to their discretion.
