Anna Paulsen, 91, of Clarion passed away Friday, December 16, 2011, at Wright Medical Center in Clarion. Funeral services for Anna Paulsen will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2011, at 10:30 AM at the United Presbyterian Church, 219 1st Street Northwest, in Clarion with Pastor Bill Kem officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street, in Clarion and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Anna Paulsen was born August 25, 1920 in the home of her parents Berend and Antje (DeGroote) Katuin in rural Hancock county Iowa. She received her early education in the country schools of the area and graduated from Britt High School. On March 27, 1941 she was united in marriage to Peter J. Paulsen at Forest City, Iowa. They resided in the Traer, Iowa area while Peter was employed by the Rock Island Railroad. Anna became a military wife when Peter was called to active duty during WW II. Upon Peter’s discharge from the Army they began farming in Britt area. Later on they farmed in the Klemme and Clarion areas while Anna was busy as a home maker raising their family. In 1960 they moved to Clarion where Anna worked for various local businesses.

Anna passed away on Friday evening, December 16, 2011 at Wright Medical Center in Clarion, Iowa. She had attained the age of 91 years, three months and 21 days. Those left to cherish her memory include her children Roger Paulsen and special friend Carol Showalter of Belmond, Carolyn and husband Lowell Wiele of Chariton, Ron and wife Becky of Macomb, Illinois, and Russ and wife Kristi of Sandy, Utah. Also surviving Anna are 11 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Preceding Anna in death were her parents, her husband Peter J. Paulsen, and her three sisters and eight brothers.

Anna was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Clarion. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking and baking and she was known for her special cookies and pies. Anna kept an interest in the flowers that appeared in and around her home where she resided until her time of death.
