MASON CITY, IA - Shirley A. Harrington, 81, of Mason City, passed away on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. Interment will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:30 Monday until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Shirley was born Aug. 24, 1930, in Wright County, Iowa, the daughter of Donovan V. and Lottie E. (Nickles) Pettinger. Shirley moved to Mason City at an early age, graduated from Mason City High School in 1948 and Hamilton Business College in 1949. On Sept. 28, 1957, she married Paul J. Harrington at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. They lived their entire lives in Mason City. She enjoyed camping over the years as the children were growing up, she also enjoyed her many trips to Branson, Missouri, in her later years.

She is survived by her three children, Terry A. Harrington, and wife Karen, Cheryl Blakely and husband Randy, Patricia Harrington and special friend Willie Blakely; seven grandchildren, Sara and husband Marvin, April, Toby, Cody, Angelica, Jeremiah, Cassady, and three great- grandchildren, Maryah, Mikyhe and Mira. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Paul Harrington in 2008. Major Erickson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, IA;
