DOYEL, SZYMANSKI, ZIMNY

Raymond B. Doyel, Chairman of the Board of Doyel & Co., Inc. died December 1, 2011 at the Missouri Veteran's Home, age 90. He was surrounded by his family and fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church. His health declined as a result of a fall. Mr. Doyel was born in Kanawha, Iowa. He was a 1939 graduate of Normandy High School, where he was a District High School Golf Medalist. After graduation Mr. Doyel began learning the roofing trade from his uncles. In 1941 he founded Doyel & Co. He joined the Navy in 1942 and later transferred to the Army Air Corp where he trained pilots during WWII. He earned the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. While in the service, his uncles kept the business running. When Mr. Doyel returned home he expanded the business to become a general contractor eventually specializing in insurance repairs. He was proud of his long affiliation with Allstate Insurance Co. Mr. Doyel remained active in the business until 2009. He was secretary of the Remodeling Guild of St. Louis, now known as NARI. His son Craig now runs the business. Mr. Doyel caddied at Norwood Hills Country Club during the 1930s as a young man and eventually became a member in 1950. He became a 1948 U.S. Public Links qualifier, 1949 Western Amateur qualifier and played in the 1953 Western Open as an amateur. He played in numerous District, State and Father-Son Tournaments representing Norwood. His membership at Norwood spanned 61 years, during which time he served on the Board of Directors and several committees. He won Norwood's highest honor in 2004 when he became the fourth recipient of The Robert F. Cochran Award, an award given in recognition of those who have distinguished themselves through their contributions to the golfing experience at Norwood. He was a fixture on the driving range and men's card room. Mr. Doyel was recently honored for his longtime affiliation with the St. Louis Seniors Golf Association.

Raymond was the beloved husband for 56 years of the late Dolores Doyel (nee Szymanski) beloved father of Craig (Sherrie) Doyel and Denise M. (George V.) Zimny; dearest grandfather of 5; dear cousin and friend to many. SERVICES: Visitation Sunday, Dec. 4, 4 to 8 p.m. at the O'SULLIVAN MUCKLE MORTUARY, 13996 Olive Blvd., Chesterfield, MO 63017 (1 M west of 141). Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2011 at St. Monica's Catholic Church, 13126 Olive Blvd. Creve Coeur MO 63141. Memorial Contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation in lieu of flowers. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.
