Robert J. Grandgenett, 65, of Britt, passed away Monday, May 7, 2007 at his home in Britt. Funeral services for Robert Grandgenett were held Thursday, May 10, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt and burial in St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery.
Robert Joseph Grandgenett was born Jan. 7, 1942, in Mason City, the second child of Joseph and Florence (Widen) Grandgenett. He graduated from Corwith-Wesley High School in May 1959. While attending high school, Bob played center field for the two-time state championship baseball team. He attended and graduated from Northern Iowa Teachers College with a bachelor of education degree. He later obtained a master's degree the University of Northern Iowa. He started teaching biology in Britt in 1963. During his nearly 43 years of teaching, he encouraged and inspired a large number of his students to careers in the medical and science fields. He also had the pleasure of coaching girls golf with the 1986 team going to the state championship. He was very active in his community serving on the Britt City Council from 1986 until 1993, was a member of the Lions Club and the Park Board.
He is survived by three children, John Grandgenett, Jeff Grandgenett and JoLynn Mohan; three stepchildren, Cheree Zeigler, Christopher Koele, and Eric Koele; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Judy Greene, Jane Frankl, Mary Cruise and Alice Simmons; and one brother, David Grandgenett. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lila.
