Elizabeth “Betsy” Gill Kenefick, 73, of Iowa City, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at home, following a sudden illness. Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Father John Spiegel officiating.

Betsy was born Nov. 13, 1937, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Franklin and Gertrude (Meloy) Gill. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Lake Forest, Ill. Betsy attended Loretta Heights College in Denver, Colo., and then transferred to the University of Iowa, where she met her husband, Tom Kenefick. On Jan. 3, 1959, Betsy and Tom were married in Sioux City. For 24 years, they lived in Eagle Grove, Iowa, where Betsy began her career in real estate. In 1983, they moved to Iowa City, where Betsy became a real estate broker with Blank and McCune.

Betsy was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Iowa City Area Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors and the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce, of which she served as president of the Ambassadors Club. She loved family holidays and singing “You make Me Feel So Young” with Tom at the piano.

Survivors include her husband, Tom of Iowa City; her daughters, Tracy (Gary) Frakes of Iowa City and Pat (Steve) Manus of Chicago; her grandchildren, Tom and Jack Frakes, both of Iowa City, and Molly and Michael Manus, both of Chicago; her brother, Franklin (Mary) Gill of New York City, N.Y.; her sister, Joan Craig of Boston, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospital Foundation for Cancer Care, 500 East Market St., Iowa City, IA 52245. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service.
