Bernice Mae Hansen, age 97, of Silvis, Illinois formerly of Moline, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 7, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at First Covenant Church, 3303-41st Street, Moline. Visitation is Monday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with an Eastern Star service at 7:00 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Burial is at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to First Covenant Church in Moline or to the American Diabetes Association.

Bernice was born November 13, 1913 in Renwick, IA, the daughter of August and Cora Elizabeth Kelling Hoffman. She married Walter Byron Hansen on July 4, 1937 in Renwick. He preceded her in death in 1998. Bernice received her nurses training at the Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton. She was employed as an R.N. for the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, and later was employed in private practice retiring in 1937. Bernice was a member of First Covenant Church in Moline. She was a past matron of the East Moline Eastern Star #779 in 1973, and was currently a member of the Silvis O.E.S. Bernice was also a member of the East Moline Woman's Club. She enjoyed quilting and sewing, and working with the Missionary Workshop through the church making ditty bags and quilts for the boys of Arrowhead Ranch and baby quilts for Christian Friendliness.
