January 14, 1920 - September 24, 2011Margaret Alberta (Boston) Schumacher, 91, formerly of Clarion, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011, at the home of her daughter, Mary McHugh, in Reno, Nevada, where she had been living for the past 4 years. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at St. John’s Catholic Church, 608 2nd Ave NE, with Reverend Nils Hernandez officiating. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Eagle Grove. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, October 7, 2011 at Ewing Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street, in Clarion and will continue one hour before services at the church. A rosary will be said at 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
Margaret was born on January 14, 1920, to Walter and Margaret Boston. She graduated from Webster City High School and was an educator in various country schools. She married Charles P. Schumacher on November 7, 1942, and moved to the family farm south of Clarion where she remained until Charles’ death in 1964. In 1965 she moved to Eagle Grove, IA, where she was employed by Security Savings Bank. Later, the family moved to Clarion, Iowa, where she was employed by the Clarion Board of Education for many years. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove then St. John’s Parish in Clarion where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters and various other organizations. She loved playing cards and going to coffee with her friends.
Margaret is survived by her daughters: Sharon Strait of Windsor Heights, Iowa and Mary (Tom) McHugh of Reno, Nevada; Russell Schumacher of Clarion, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Michael Strait of Des Moines, Iowa, Robert (Melanie) Strait, Courtney (Brian) Graham, Nicholas and Molly McHugh, all of Reno, Nevada; 4 great-grandchildren: Savannah and Sierra Strait of Reno, Nevada and Dillon and Damon Strait of Des Moines, Iowa; 2 sisters: Lauretta Cherpinsky of Fort Myers Beach, Florida and Monica Page of Iowa Falls, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; a granddaughter, Barbara; great-grandson Mitchell; a brother, Howard Boston; and sisters: Mary Bobzien and Rosina Holtz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Circle of Life Hospice or Angel Associates both of whom contributed to a peaceful last few months of Margaret’s life.
