Refine L. Rossman was born January 6, 1922, at the home of his parents Refine L. and Lena (Nash) Rossman at Bancroft, Iowa. His parents said it was -22 degrees the night he was born. His father was superintendent of schools in several towns in northwest Iowa. Refine graduated from Renwick High School in 1939. He attended Iowa State University at Ames, Iowa and graduated in mechanical engineering in 1943. It seemed he has used his math and engineering knowledge everyday of his life. He then worked for Goodyear Aircraft in Akron, Ohio before entering the United States armed services.
Refine married Rita Mae Engstrom at the Renwick Baptist Church on December 2, 1945. When returning from the service he started farming and continued being active in farming until 2008. He attended the Renwick Baptist Church. Refine served on the Federal Land Bank board. He was a township ASCS committee member doing measurement service for many years and worked at the office until his term was completed. Refine was known for his interest in auctions and machinery.
Refine died Saturday, October 8, 2011, at his home at the age of 89. Refine is survived by his wife, Rita Mae; sister-in-law, Shirley Engstrom; niece, Bonita and her husband Robert Harle; niece, Betty and her husband Howard Hughes; two great-nieces, Rhonda and Barbara; four great-nephews, Rodney, Robbie, Brian and Bruce and their families and other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Oscar and Annette Engstrom; brother-in-law, Frank Engstrom; nephew, Mike Engstrom and his wife Kay.
