Richard Ray Allen, the son of Francis T. and Frances S. (Schwendemann) Allen, was born October 25, 1946, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Eagle Grove, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1964. Rick then attended A.I.B and Eagle Grove Community College. On July 30, 1966, Rick was united in marriage with Wyn Ann Messerly at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Duncombe. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove and Rick worked as a dispatcher for Umthun Trucking and as an insurance agent for Farm Bureau Insurance Company.

Rick was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eagle Grove Jaycees, Wright County TACK Unit and the Wright County Gun Club. Because of his love of baseball and kids, Rick served many years as a volunteer Baseball Coach, Wood Bat League Coach and T Ball Coach. He also earned his black belt in karate.

Rick passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2011, at the age of 64 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Raymond Edward Allen and Tyler Francis Allen; daughter, Wynde Marie Allen and brother, Jay Allen. Survivors include his wife Wyn Ann Allen of Eagle Grove; sons, Donnie Allen and wife Paula and their children, Wynde and Jennifer of Eldora and Christian Allen and wife Carol and their children, Bryce and Mason of Wellsburg; sisters, Kay Thomas and husband Clyde "Butch" of Fort Dodge and Connie Koester and husband Larry of Ankeny; brother, Terry Allen and wife Cheryl of Altoona and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove, with Father Nils Hernandez officiating. Visitation is Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 5:00, at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
