Paul Eugene Osborn, 90, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, surrounded by his wife and two daughters. He is loved by many. Paul was born July 23, 1917, to Clement Able Osborn and Eunice Derr Osborn in Danbury, Iowa. He and his wife, Ruth Gragert Osborn, were married at the Little Brown Church in the Vale at Nashua, Iowa. Together they enjoyed 68 years of marriage, love and friendship. Their life together was full of rich experiences and challenges. Paul was in the Army Air Forces and flew rescue missions out of Burma during World War II. Paul's career with the United Nations as a fisheries biologist and culturist took them around the world where Paul set up fish hatcheries in underdeveloped countries. In earlier years he worked with private hatcheries in the United States raising fish, developing large automated feeders and improving ways of transporting fish to market or store. His specialty in fish disease made him a worldwide expert. He received his graduate degree in fisheries and his undergraduate degree in engineering at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; his daughters, Prudence and Eugenia; son, Philip; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Paul's life will be held at the Union Congregational Church in Hackensack, Minn., at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15. A time of greeting and visiting will be held in the fellowship room following the funeral celebration. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts go to the church music program. Arrangements are with Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
