Ruth Alta (Fitch) Walker, 104, Alexandria, died August 1, 2011. Ruth was born March 12, 1907 on a farm near Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Canada. Her parents were Paul B. Fitch and Neva (Patrick) Fitch. The family moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1915. Her father was a registered pharmacist and bought a drug store. Ruth graduated from Central High School in Omaha in 1925. She married LeRoy Thomas in 1928. LeRoy and Ruth had two children, Ruth Ann and William David Thomas. LeRoy was employed by the U. S. Post Office. In 1949 they moved to Jud, North Dakota where LeRoy was a rural mail carrier. He died in 1952.

Ruth moved to Moorhead, Minnesota, then to Minneapolis and St. Paul where she worked for Daytons, then the Internal Revenue Service. In 1963, she married Herb Walker of Goldfield, Iowa where they lived until his death in 1978. In 1979, Ruth moved to Alexandria to be near her children and grandchildren, all residents of Minnesota.

She leaves a daughter, Ruth Ann Amundson of Alexandria; son, William Thomas (Mary) of Duluth, stepdaughters, Flo Reichter (Duane) of Florida and Hazel Walker of Iowa; grandchildren, Laura Mickelson (Randy), Mark Thomas, Cheryl Hebert (Pat), Karen Cote (Joe), Ross Amundson (Brenda), William Thomas Jr., Patricia Oknich (Mark), Elizabeth Fay (Jack), and Kathryn Thomas; stepgrandchildren, Paul Walker (Mary Beth), Greg Reichter (Barb), Jennie Hindt (Gary), and Malinda Buchanan (Jim); great-grandchildren, Dr. Chris Mickelson (Alison), Sarah Bazakos (Elias), Lisa Walgrave (Derek), Amanda Amundson, Cory Amundson, Wendy Brees (Jeff), Patrick Hebert (Amy), Tim Cote, Matthew Cote, Kelly Thomas, Jeremy Thomas, and Jessica Oknich; step-great-grandchildren, Cassie Anderson, Heather Arntson (Mike), Lindsay Mahler (Keith), Erika Huber (Cory), Jay Walker (Amy), and Bob Walker; 23 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and Canadian cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeRoy Thomas; husband, Herb Walker; brother, Cecil Fitch; sisters, Alice (Fitch) Martin and Mabelle (Fitch) Turk; son-in-law, Erwin Amundson; and stepson, Mickey Walker.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 5 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Rev. Marilee Bergerson officiating. Musical selections were by Dr. Elias Bazakos, Annetta Knowles and Doris Reeve. Eulogy was by Dr. Chris Mickelson. Pallbearers were Ross Amundson, Jack Fay, Pat Hebert, Randy Mickelson, Mark Oknich and Bill Thomas. Burial was at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
