August 4, 1869 -- June 11, 1911

One of the most sudden and sad deaths known to this city for years occurred Sunday June 11th when Mrs. Harry Poole was without warning taken from family and friends and left the entire community prostrated with awful affliction. Mrs. Poole and children in company with Mrs. Schaeffer had driven out toward evening to the grove on the Boone by the Wasem bridge and had just driven through the gate into the timber when Mrs. Poole was stricken and was observed dropping her babe from her lap. Mrs. Schaeffer lifted her from the carriage and she was immediately conveyed to the home by Dr. McGrath who was passing with his auto just at the time. She was immediately unconscious and remained in that condition until death came at 7 o'clock. Mr. Poole was immediately telegraphed the sad news and he reached home Sunday night over the Great Western from LeMars.

Laura J. Bullis was born at Belmond, Iowa August 4th, 1869. Her mother died when she was four years old and she was given a home in the E. A. Howland family and came with them to Eagle Grove in 1884 and on December 12, 1889 was married to Harry Poole. To this union nine children were born of whom seven are living. Clara, the oldest sixteen years of age and Lynn, the youngest, ten months. Two children died with diphtheria, one three years of age and one five, and both taken within four days, in June, 1895. Mrs. Poole was a christian mother, a faithful member of the congregational church during all her life in Eagle Grove.
