March 11, 1932 --- July 21, 2011

Urbandale, IA --- Eugene (Gene) Osby, 79 passed away peacefully on Thursday evening July 21 at University Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a debilitating stroke in November 2010. A Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon July 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 8301 Aurora Ave, Urbandale, IA. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 25 at the church. Family will also greet an hour prior to service.

Gene was born and raised in Kanawha, Iowa. Gene retired from Colonial Bread Company after 40 plus years. Starting as a route salesman, he worked his way up through many positions including state sales manager in Iowa and plant manager in Alton, Illinois before returning to the Des Moines area. Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Gene enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed attending church, senior center luncheons and retiree breakfast groups.

Gene married his High School sweetheart Betty Benson in November 1951 and together they had four boys, providing nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Gene's last few years were brightened by his new love Donna who's caring and support brought him hope and happiness that he had lost only a few years earlier.

Survivors include his loving wife, Donna Kusy Osby; sons, Randy (Shirley) of Altoona, Ed (Charlene) of Fairfield, Ron (Susan) of Urbandale, and Greg (Tamie) of Urbandale; nine grandchildren including Andy (Melissa), Stephanie (Garret), Jennifer (Garry), Ryan, Jacqueline, Josh, Jeff (Krysten), Tyler (Heather), Angela; three great-grandchildren including Grant and twins Carter and Drew; sister, Lois (Don) Goeman of Belmond, Marlys (Larry) Wicks of Kanawha and sister-in-law, Lucille Osby of Kanawha. Eugene was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty of 53 years; his father, Edmund; mother, Margaret and two brothers, Paul and Gordon.
