Belmond, IA --- J. Edward "Ed" Ryan, Jr., was born April 22, 1917, at Rockwell City, to James and Minnie Ehler Ryan. He was the eldest of ten children. He married Marjorie Frances Staton at Nevada, in 1937. They would have celebrated 74 years of marriage on June 23. Together, they raised three children: Terry, Larry and Monte. During his working years, Mr. Ryan farmed in the Dows, Ventura and Britt areas, worked at Winnebago Industries and later owned and operated his commercial truck. He brought the values of hard work, honesty and pride in workmanship to all of his endeavors. He realized the importance of being a conscientious steward of the land, and in his farming years was deeply committed to nurturing his crops from seed to maturity. As a lifelong Democrat, Ed was politically aware and ventured out to caucus for his favored candidate well into his eighties. Mr. Ryan is survived by his wife, Marjorie, and sons, Larry (Jane) of Waterloo, Monte (Candance) of Peoria, Ariz.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elsie (Wilbur) Schroeder of Dows. He was preceded in death by a son, Terry, in 1958; his parents and siblings, Alice, Harold, Walter, Ethel, Glenn, Jean, Daryl and Darlene.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. at Andrews Funeral Home, 516 First St. S.E., in Belmond on Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation with the family present will be held at the funeral home from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Monday and continues one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Tuesday. The family wishes to express thanks to the caring staff at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond for their comfort to Ed and his family. Andrews Funeral Homes, Belmond, IA.

J. Edward Ryan, Jr., 94, died on Friday, June 17, 20011, at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Services were held on Tuesday, June 21, at the Andrews Funeral Home in Belmond. Burial was in Memorial Park at Mason City.
