August 14, 1916 -- December 13, 2003

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Irene M. Hermann, 87, of Seattle, Wash., died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at the assisted living home where she had been residing the last several months. Irene was born Aug. 14, 1916, near Merrill, the daughter of Herbert E. and Nellie (Donlin) Kehrberg. She was baptized and confirmed in the Merrill Methodist Church, where she later taught Sunday School and sang in the chancel choir. She received her education in the rural school near her home and graduated from Merrill High School in 1933. Irene and Darrell J. Hermann of Sioux City were married Aug. 14, 1939, in the Merrill Methodist Church. They made their home in Onawa and Eagle Grove, where Darrell taught school. They then moved to Port Angles, Wash., and later to Seattle, Wash., where she was a homemaker devoted to her family, her home, and church, which was the Trinity United Methodist Church. Darrell died in March 1986. She continued living in her home until moving into the assisted living apartments.

Survivors include her two sons, John Hermann of Seattle, Wash., and Jim and his wife, Jennifer of Tiburon, Calif.; one daughter, Jeanne and her husband, Steve Barnett, of Arlington, Wash.; four grandchildren, Darci and Kip Hermann of California and Joseph and Gregory Barnett of Arlington, Wash.; one sister, Darlene and her husband, Don Fischer, of Le Mars; eight nieces and and nephews and many other relatives living in the Le Mars and Merrill area. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister Ethel and her husband, Harold Tschampel, and two brothers Herbert F. "Bud" Kehrberg and one in infancy. Private graveside service was in Seattle.Gifts in Irene's memory can be given to the charity of one's choice.
