Fran Reed, 75, of Florence, Texas formerly of Belmond, Iowa, died Tuesday. Services 10 a.m. Saturday, Ramsey Funeral Home, Georgetown.

Our beloved mother, Frances Reed passed on June 7, 2011. Mom Reed raised her four sons with love, tempered with generous doses of common sense and self-reliance. She led a varied and interesting life that she shared with her husband Earl for 25 years. Widowed at 45, she raised her two youngest sons on her own. Frances was a practical woman who said what was on her mind. She supported her sons with wisdom and the generosity of a mother’s love. She was an independent woman before her time and maintained her sense of individuality in any environment she encountered. Popular with all she met, people gravitated to her naturally due to her confident demeanor and sound advice. Mom loved to be around people and was often chosen to be a spokesperson for the many social groups and volunteer organizations she belonged to. Employed by Southwestern Bell, she retired to Andice, Texas in 1997. The family and her many friends will miss her dearly; she truly was an amazingly strong woman.

She is survived by her four sons and their wives; Vince and Joan, Brian and Paula, Chris and Lori, Marty and Carolyn; two brothers Richard Speer and Donovan Dixon, grandchildren David Riley, Jennifer York, Shay Riley, Tracye Smith, Kevin Dixon and his wife Adrienne, Ryan Dixon, Ashley and her husband Stan Salome, Courtney and her husband Curtis Miller, Megan Reed, Brandon Reed, Mary Reed, Nathan Riley, Justin Riley, Makayla Reed and Mitchell Reed. Great-grandchildren include Devin Smith, Jetty and Morgan Dixon, and Evan Miller.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 11, 2011 in the chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown. Arrangements made under the care and guidance of Ramsey Funeral Home, 5600 Williams Dr., Georgetown, Texas 78633.
