November 17, 1813 -- June 3, 1898
Mrs. Elizabeth Martin Dumond was born in Nova Scotia, Nov. 17 1813, was married to Archie Dumond May 11, 1831 and was left a widow May 18, 1858. She was the mother of twelve children, only five of whom survive her: Mrs. Emily Brown, of Macedonia, Iowa, Mrs. Gittie Finch, of Belmond, Iowa, Messrs. B. F. and T. F. Dumond and Mrs. Hattie Barr of Wheeler, Iowa. All were with her at the last. She made a profession of religion and joined the Baptist church in early life. In all her life and especially during her widowhood and declining years the Bible was her constant companion friend and guide. She quietly and peacefully fell asleep in Jesus, "The blessed sleep, from which none ever wake to weep," at the home of her youngest son, T.F. Dumond, of Wheeler, Iowa, June 3rd, 1898. She lived more than four score years, being 84 years, 5 months, and 15 days old at her death. Truly it may be said of her, as it is written in Job 5:26; "Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in his season."
