Rolf Hanson Rites Tuesday

On Saturday, May 10, 1947, Rolf Hanson passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Andrew Fuhr, near Goldfield. As age was advancing his heart had been failing, but he had been able to be about until the last few days of his life. He was 86 years, 5 months and 5 days when he died. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock at the Skaugstad funeral home in Humboldt and at two o'clock at the Thor Lutheran church. Burial was in the Thor cemetery.

The departed was born in Hadeland, Norway, December 7, 1860 with Hans and Anna Syverson as parents. He emigrated to America in 1880, coming to Humboldt County, Iowa. For a number of years, he worked on the railroad, residing in turn at Rolfe, Bradgate, Ruthven and Thor. In 1901 he took up farming, and continued until 1916, when he retired and made his home in Thor. On October 15, 1883, Mr. Hanson was united in marriage to Gjertina Knutson. Twelve children were born to the marriage. Mrs. Knutson died in 1932. Also, three sons preceded him in death, namely, Louis, George and Robert. An infant daughter also died. The living children are Mrs. Hannah Hughes, Blooming Prairie, Minn., Carl of Lake Mills, Mrs. Anna Bjornson of Humboldt, Julius of Corwith, Mrs. Alice Chodur of Forest City, John of Livermore, Martin of Thor, and Mrs. Edith Fuhr of Goldfield. There are also 52 grandchildren surviving and 68 great grandchildren. One sister still lives, Mrs. Sofia Johnson of Rutland.

The deceased was baptized in infancy in Javnakers Lutheran church and confirmed in youth in Lunners Annex Lutheran church, both in Norway. He was a faithful member of Ullensvang Lutheran church of Thor, but owing to increasing deafness, he was unable to make use of the regular worship in recent years. He was appreciative of the pastor's visits even though conversation was difficult.

Rolf Hanson, long-time resident of Thor, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Andrew Fuhr, near Goldfield Saturday afternoon following a short illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock at the Skaugstad funeral home in Humboldt and at two o'clock at the Thor Lutheran church. Burial was in the Thor cemetery. Mr. Hanson is survived by the following children; Mrs. Peter Hughes of Blooming Prairie, Minn., Mrs. Annie Bjornson of Humboldt, Mrs. Alice Chodur of Forest City, Mrs. Fuhr of near Goldfield, Martin of Thor, John of Livermore, Julius of Corwith and Carl of Forest City. Fifty-two grandchildren and sixty-eight great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Hanson died about 14 years ago and three sons, George, Robert and Louis and an infant daughter also preceded him in death.
