FIREMAN DIES WHILE ON DUTY

Marshall Malvin Succumbs to Sudden Heart Attack At Fire Hall

Marshall D. Malvin, 65, 1313 John avenue, well known Superior resident, died suddenly Wednesday at 9 a.m., the victim of a sudden heart attack. Mr. Malvin had a slight heart attack at home about 7 a.m. Wednesday, according to his wife, but this quickly passed, and Mr. Malvin decided to leave for the Billings Park fire hall, where he was employed as lieutenant of hose company No. 6. Ten minutes before 9 o'clock he was apparently feeling well, and chatted with his companions at the fire hall, but at 9 o'clock he was suddenly stricken with the second attack, to which he succumbed.

He was born August 4, 1863 at Colburg, Iowa and for the past 33 years made his residence in Superior. On April third, 1895 he was appointed by the chief of the fire department as a driver for chemical company No. 2, and on May 12, 1899 was appointed as driver for the hook and ladder company No. 2. Finally, on March 1, 1919, he was promoted to the position of lieutenant of hose company No. 6 which position he held up to his death. Survivors are his wife: a son, Sidney, 20, a student at Central High School; his mother of Belmond, Iowa; a sister of Belmond, Iowa, two brothers, Percy of Rochester and John of Faribault. Funeral arrangements are pending. The body is at the Z.A. Downs mortuary.
